How to prepare

Don't worry, there really isn't much to prepare, but here are a few suggestions to help your photo session go as smoothly as possible. I can give you some more tips as we discuss your session.

Outfits
Dress in clothes that you wear often, are comfortable in and really like. Wear what you look and feel good in. You may want to avoid clothing with logos, graphics or very busy patterns… but not necessarily. It's more important that the clothes express the individual. If in doubt, bring several options. Even if not in doubt, bring several options - we may not use them all but it's good to have back-up. Don't forget to think about seasonally appropriate accessories too - shoes, socks, hats, scarves, mittens etc.

Toys
I carry a few props, but prefer to work with objects you bring. Depending on the age group, select a few favorite toys and a couple of blankets. Think about bringing a favorite stuffed toy as well as a more action-oriented item - bring what you would bring to the location even if you weren't being photographed.

Adults
I recommend avoiding watches or large jewelry for your photo session - as beautiful as they may be, they can be distracting in photos and we'd like to keep the focus on you. Engagement/wedding rings and small pendants or earrings are of course fine. Don't forget to get a manicure if that's something you typically do. You never know when your nails are going to appear in a photo, especially with babies! Men, consider shaving just before the session and not just that morning if you want a clean shaven look.

Snacks and other items
Again, bring whatever food and drink you would normally bring, as well as your other usual diaper bag/kiddie bag contents. Include a comb and/or hair brush and some extra treats.

Finally…
If possible, make sure you and your family get good rest before the shoot!
